Its source code can be found in the file ascii_template.pro in the lib subdirectory of the IDL distribution. This routine is written in the IDL language. See READ_ASCII for details on reading ASCII files. Templates are IDL structure variables that may be used when reading ASCII files with the READ_ASCII routine. Just a mini rant, please do keep answering our questions it helps a lot just remember "oh revit doesnt like to do this" isn't an answer and if anything it is an indicator that it probably should. The ASCII_TEMPLATE function presents a graphical user interface (GUI) which generates a template defining an ASCII file format. (often times even the bosses know its stupid but the client wants it) We ask these questions because our superiors asked us to do these very things and we are not in a position to just say its stupid. Revit is not a hammer, its a multi tool, and if we want a toothpick on it, please add it and if you cant then explain to us how we an use the screwdriver for the same task, it doesn't matter if its "illogical" if it was logical it likely would not have been a question in the first place.

It is infuriating enough that autodesk seemingly refuses to provide fixes for an ever growing pile of user requests, please lets not have users turn into this mind set as well. Trying to do this very thing, unfortunately easiest way might be copying the layout from cad paper space and pasting into model space, scale the annotations so it matches the model.Īs a new user of this program the biggest issue i see is the mentality of a "set workflow" it is very off putting and limiting. So we went the PLot to Vector PDF, open in Illustrator, Export to DWG. Weve had to do it for Marketing boards where they wanted the entire sheet from CD's, but then they wanted to "dress it up," and/or do things to it that simply didnt make sense to do in Revit, but they wanted vectors for filling/hatching/coloring, yet they wanted to keep the titleblock. The views wont have any positioning context related to the sheets in Revit, and the views are all drawn 1:1, which means even if you scale the Titleblock up and drop it in Mspace, it wont work out without repositioning every view. The titleblock being in Paperspace isnt the only problem, in terms of the DWG (for what marketing wants). Its a dirty dwg, and it aint pretty, but its a faster way there, because: Reason being, Illustrator can take a Vector PDF, and turn it in to a DWG that is exactly as you are looking for. Then, i would find out if they have Illustrator in their Creative Suite. I would honestly ask exactly what they are trying to do once they have it, as the first question. There *are* use cases for it, so im going to cast the other bulls**t aside, and just get down to business. JJ, it isnt possible in Native Revit, and there are a few more complications to simply trying to get the Revit Sheet to a DWG thats entirely in Model Space. Theres been a bunch of that here lately, and on twitter. Just because youre all sitting at the top of the peak of BIM expertise (i hope you caught the sarcasm there), doesnt mean whenever someone asks a question about a workflow you wouldnt do, you have to be a condescending ass about it. Good god, some of you guys are brutal (Jay), and lately.
